JUNIOR SCHOOL OVERVIEW (YEARS 2-4)
The curriculum at our Preparatory School in Kenya is designed to provide a well-rounded and globally relevant education, incorporating elements of both the Kenyan Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and international best practices. Mornings are organized into seven periods of thirty minutes each, fostering an engaging and structured learning environment. Subjects offered during these sessions include English, Mathematics, Science, Kiswahili, Social Studies, French (from Grade 4), Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Religious Education, Creative Arts (Art and Design), Music, and Physical Education. This comprehensive curriculum aims to nurture intellectual, social, and emotional growth in every child.
Academics
- Joybirds Preparatory delivers on the Kenyan National Curriculum. This is the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and 8-4-4..
- We deliver on CBC through a Learner Centered Approach. We place emphasis on Research, Practicals and Projects especially for Math and Sciences.
- We also integrate IT in our lesson delivery. We also have computer classes for learners in PP2 to STD. 8..
- We have a very strong Reading Culture within Joybirds Preparatory. Learners are provided with Story Books in both English and Kiswahili languages, which they are encouraged to read and explore. Library time is part of the school timetable. During this session, learners read their books and discuss with the teachers any areas of concern.
- We also have a special needs expert who together with the grade facilitators ensures that all students’ academic needs even those enabled differently are met..
- We also teach French and Music as compulsory subjects.
